S: Hello and welcome again, dear listeners and participants. Thank you for your listening, interaction, and your presence on our platform. Today’s topic will be about domestic violence in Iraq. This topic is sensitive and has now become a dilemma. The Iraqi government is unable to enact a domestic violence law. Today we host one of the feminist activists participating and defending the domestic violence law. Welcome Rahaf with us. I’d like to mention that Rahaf’s voice has been modified for security reasons.
R: you are welcome.
S: Thank you for being with us. The first question I’ d like to ask is why is the domestic violence law called by this name, not violence against women?
R: It‘s called the Domestic Violence Law because it includes the entire family, including the mother, father, and children of both genders.
S: Even the kids?
R: Even kids, teenagers and young people the law enacted to protect all family members, not only women, but in our society now, violence is mostly focused on women because they are the weakest link in the whole family because of their staying at home and the roles set for them within the family and society, where violence is focused on women and young women a girl is subjected to verbal and physical violence by the father, mother, or brothers within the family.
