Now, the security forces are besieging the “Al-Mail” area in the Al-Hawizeh Marsh, and are carrying out massive arrests of the marshes’ protesters, who demand water provision and an end to the humanitarian crisis in the marshes.

The Iraqi army closes all ports in the area with concrete, installs checkpoints, and promises severe repression of the protesters before the protests escalate, justifying this by order of the Central Command.

Several days ago, small protests erupted by a group of young people, after which a number of them were taken to hospital after brutal and excessive violence. When the police drew their weapons, one of the police shouted at the protesters “Ma’dan” before beating them, a very racist word meaning “backward”.

The Iraqi state condones and refuses to stop or adopt a position against the systematic killing by the Iranian guard of the Marsh farmers who cross to search for their animals that migrate in search of water to the east of the marshes, i.e. the side controlled by Iran.
The Iranian guards regularly kill the Marsh residents with Iraqi approval, but now the police have surrounded a group of protesters who managed to cross the bridges before closing them, subjecting them to extreme violence and frankly threatening to kill them.

The police implement excessive violence in the southern regions as a tactic to suppress the rebellion of an enemy whose power must be subjugated by shooting him directly. “End the problem by shooting it.”
At this moment hundreds of protesters are being repressed, help us make their voice heard! Because what is happening now is government violence, forced displacement and a policy of impoverishment that could ignite a war, and this is the last thing we wish for.
